Blog # 6

When I hear the word organic, I think of fresh fruit and veggies being grown on a farm. I think that the word organic means, that the farmers who grow the fruits and vegetables do not use any bad chemicals while harvesting them. Organic food is said to be better because it doesn’t have any of those bad chemicals in it. In the article, What You Eat Is Your Business, the writer, Radley Balko says that “The best way to alleviate the obesity "public health" crisis is to remove obesity from the realm of public health.” I think that maybe he means that people should try to eat more organic, healthy foods so they can remain at a healthy weight and obesity will stop being a growing epidemic. Being obese does not have to happen if people try to eat healthier or at least just try to watch what they eat.
I think that the word organic is rhetorical because, it is a symbol that represents how people’s diets or lifestyles should be, instead of how they already are, which is unhealthy and overweight. Obesity really is a growing epidemic, and people should try to stop eating all those bad foods and try to eat better. High calorie foods just make people feel full and fat, but organic fruits and veggies could give people a little energy boost because it’s so healthy. I think that organically grown food is what people need to eat in order to get healthier. The more obesity grows in this country, the more organic foods are being harvested. People are trying though to eat healthier, I guess that’s why organically grown foods are being harvested, so they can help people live beneficial and nourishing lives.
