Blog # 7

"The blessing of the omnivore is that he can eat a great many different things in nature" (287) that quote by Pollan means, we aren't like carnivores that only eat one thing, meat. We can eat lots of different things. (meat, fruits, vegies). The omnivore's dilemma is, that since we can have just about any type of food, it's hard for us to pick food that is safe or healthy for us to eat. In the book, the omnivore's dilemma, Pollan says that there are three principle food chains that sustain us today: the industrial, the organic, and the hunter-gatherer."(7). The book is spilt up into three parts, each part talks about one of the three "parts" of the food chain.
I think I have experienced the omnivore's dilemma. Last year, I wanted to try to eat healthier and lower my cholestrol just in case it was high. (I had gotten a blood test and I didn't know if it was high or not, because I didn't get the results back yet.) It was a little hard for me because I love to eat junkfood, but I stopped eating a lot of it while i was trying to eat healthier. Plus there wasn't a lot of healthy food in my house. So instead of eating all those yummy snacks, I tried to eat more salads and fruits. Sometimes fruit just doesn't fill you up;it was hard to eat just the things that were healthy for me.
